Quarry Trails Office Park – Architectural Theme Rockwork

In summer of 2022, the partnership of Thrive Companies and the Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks will be opening Quarry Trails in Columbus, Ohio. The Quarry Trails development is a massive site totaling over 607 acres; however, the mixed-use portion is limited to the southern 80-acre parcel. This project includes 43,000 sq. ft. of office space, 295 apartments, 520 for-sale townhomes/condominiums, 16,000 sq. ft. of retail, and an 11,000 sq. ft. community center.

Following the concept of marrying Quarry Trail’s natural surroundings with new construction, COST created naturalistic and regionally specific theme rockwork inside and outside of the office complex. Designed with the appearance the building was constructed around a natural rock bluff, the rockwork “bisects” the office building. The contemporary rock wall reaches over three stories tall. Theme rockwork was also added to the interior office spaces to provide unique thematic accents inside. These accents are consistent in finish and color with the exterior rock. A main focal point includes the entry stairwell, where the rock, decorative steel, and glass compose a modern-industrial design palette.

COST Brought the Quarry Trails Vision to Life

“We love how the office balances the architectural modern-industrial design with the natural elements of the textured rockwork. Standing as the front door to the Quarry Trails community, the office design pulls inspiration from the surrounding Metro Park and COST, Inc. has done an amazing job bringing our vision for this building to life.” Eric Hibner, SVP of Purchasing, Thrive Companies.

COST was hired by Thrive Companies to fabricate a ¼ inch scale construction model of the rock escarpments, produce signed and sealed engineered structural shop drawings, provide a 6’x6’ theme rockwork mock-up, and construct the interior and exterior artificial rockwork facades.
