Fresno Chaffee Zoo, African Adventure
The Fresno Chaffee Zoo opened its 13-acre African Adventure in the fall. African Adventure features multi-specie exhibits that allow patrons to view these animals as if they were within their native habitat, the African plains and savannas. The project includes several species, including elephants, cheetahs, lions, white rhinoceros, reticulated giraffes, and other hoof stock. A giraffe feeding station is an added interactive highlight of the adventure.
COST's Expertise in Zoological Habitat Design
COST worked closely with zoo staff, The Portico Group, and Harris Construction, along with other consultants, to deliver this awe-inspiring exhibit. Extensive time and effort was placed into providing patrons with a realistic view of this part of the world, while animal enrichment was optimized throughout each exhibit area. An overview of the patron experiences that are available can be viewed on the Fresno Zoo's website.
Our responsibilities included cost estimating for specialty finishes, shop drawings, engineering, models, fabrication, and construction of 135,000 sq. ft. of streams, ponds, Kopje rock, earth banks, along with a 35’ tall baobab tree.
